Mount Vernon - "This Saturday Mount Vernon's own homegrown stage act will be presenting fresh material for your pleasure and enjoyment.
The goatsinger show typically opens with an introduction to the mythical town of Mount Revere - which, it is explained, you reach by heading out to the shoe-tree west of town and making "the appropriate turn." What follows is an occasionally hilarious, sometimes serious, always engaging program of storytelling, short performance pieces, puppetry, and music, that culminates in an all-house singalong.
This weekend's program, "Summer Commences: a Goatsinger Show," will showcase theater pieces written by local playwrights, Joe Jennison and Mike Moran. Jennison's new piece, "Zombie Diaries" is smartly played by Mount Vernon local, Cameron Wood.
Moran will preview cuttings from two upcoming goatsinger musicals, "A Frog Prince," and "Ragged Ascent." Mount Vernon resident Kim Benesh will perform a music selection from "A Frog Prince." Braden Rood and Josh Woosley, also from Mount Vernon, will offer a cutting from "Ragged Ascent."
In addition, there will be performances by Anton Rood of Mount Vernon, and a guest appearance by Tilly Shakespeare.
"Summer Commences: a Goatsinger Show" will take place at 7:30 pm, Saturday, June 1 at the now-air-conditioned Uptown Theatre in the First Street Community Center, 221 1st St E, Mount Vernon. Running time on the goatsinger show is always between 60 and 90 minutes. Donations are appreciated."
