Iowa City Auditions for the Children’s Chorus of Bizet’s Carmen
Who: Children age 6-12 with unchanged voices.
Date: Tuesday, September 24
Time: Arrive at 4:30pm
Location: 620 S. Summit Street, Iowa City
Preparation: No prepared music is required. Chorusmaster Nancy Macfarlane will be conducting the auditions.
Performances: January 17 & 19 at the Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids. Cast rehearsals begin December 28, 2013. Chorus rehearsals will be held in the fall, with specific dates to be determined.
Information about the opera: Carmen is Bizet’s most well-known opera which tells the tale of a seductive gypsy, a soldier captivated by her charms, and a dashing matador. The Children’s Opera Chorus is prominently featured in multiple scenes filled with energy & excitement. Cast members include Iowa-born mezzo soprano, Janara Kellerman, in the title role and the return of last season’s Marcello from La Boheme, baritone Phil Torre in the role of Escamillo, the Toreador. Conducted by Daniel Kleinknecht, this new Cedar Rapids Opera Theatre production will be sung in French with English supertitles and will be staged by Bill Farrar. Orchestra Iowa musicians will serve as the opera orchestra.
