City Circle New Play Festival Seeking Submissions
Coralville - "City Circle is seeking new, original, unpublished plays for inclusion in its bi-annual New Play Festival. Any author is welcome to submit up to three original plays or musicals, but priority will be given to submissions that are created by a local author or an author with strong Iowa ties; are able to be performed with simple set, costume and technical demands; are approximately 10 minutes in length; are receiving their debut performance at this festival.

Plays Announced for City Circle's New Play Festival
Coralville - "Nine plays chosen from more than 350 submissions will be featured at City Circle Acting Company’s New Play Festival on February 4 and 5 at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. All of the short plays center on family bonds and making connections in our contemporary lives. The featured plays are:
A Different State by Terry Riley
Batting Practice by Rand Higbee
Choices by Barbara Lau
Driven to Distraction by Matt Crowley
Mads by Matthew Falduto
Picnics at Windy Creek River by Brian Tanner
Retail Therapy by Anthony Craine
We Appear to Have Company by Greg Freier
Ken and Barbies’ Root Beer Date by Kent Forsberg
The Play Festival will be held during the run of Urinetown at the Performing Arts Center. “Each short play will be simply produced in tandem with Urinetown,” says director Jesse Jensen. “The musical Urinetown came from a new play festival similar to this one so it’s only fitting that we allow audiences to see theater at different stages within the same weekend.
Tickets to the New Play Festival are $10 and can be purchased at www.coralvillearts.org or by calling 319.248.9370 or in person at the CCPA box office at 1301 5th Street and at the Coralville Recreation Center at 1506 8th Street."

"More than 300 plays were submitted this year for the festival. Comedies, dramas, farces--you never know what will turn up at this wacky display of novel talent. February 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the CCPA. Call for Submissions: City Circle New Play Festival
Coralville - City Circle is accepting submissions for its biannual New Play Festival. Preference will be given to plays that have not been produced, are written by Iowans or those with ties to Iowa, are ten minutes or less, and have simple/minimal technical requirements. No writer may submit more than three plays. The deadline is October 1.
The New Play Festival will take place March 8 - 10, 2013, at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts. Contact CityCircleNewPlay@gmail.com with any questions.

City Circle's New Play Festival Begins March 4th
Coralville - This Friday marks the beginning of City Circle's fifth New Play Festival.
The festival features six new works in a variety of styles. Festival coordinator Josh Beadle says, "I'm really excited to bring together such a broad spectrum of plays. From comedy to fantasy to family drama, we have it all for this show. We've got a fantastic group of actors, also very diverse in every single way. We've got members of every age and experience level."
Circle Circle's "New Play Festival 5" will be performed at the Iowa Children's Museum at Coral Ridge Mall, March 4-6 at 7pm (2pm on Sunday). Tickets are $10 and can be purchased from City Circle's website.

City Circle Announces Plays for the “New Play Festival”
City Circle - City Circle Acting Company of Coralville is proud to announce the plays chosen for their fifth annual New Play Festival.
The winning entries were chosen from over fifty submissions and represent only a fraction of the impressive work that was submitted. The six plays chosen range from drama to comedy and from the sublime to the absurd. Both local and national playwrights are represented in the selections.
Cole Haans, by Henry Meyerson, tells the story of a couple’s indiscretions. Brian Tanner’s A Simple Request explores the power of wishes. Blinking in Treetops, by Shirley King, is a philosophical take on insect life. Greg Machlin’s Family Portrait is a moving tale of loss and recovery. Marek Muller’s Shanghai Knives is a comic romp with cutlery. Old Summer Love, by Stanley Toledo, will warm your heart, while Tom Deiker’s gothic There’s an Extra Patient in Room 203 will send a chill up your spine.
City Circle is seeking directors and actors for the New Play Festival. Previous Festivals have provided opportunities for new directors to participate and for actors to portray a variety of intriguing characters. Those interested should contact producer Joshua Beadle at josh@citycircle.org.

City Circle accepting submissions for New Play Festival
City Circle - City Circle is now accepting 
original scripts to be performed in their New Play Festival in March 2011. Scripts will be accepted now through October 1, 2010. A final list of chosen plays will be announced November 1, 2010. Ideal plays would be roughly 10 minutes in length. They are always looking for new and upcoming playwrights. Please send your submissions to megan@citycircle.org. Submissions will be read and selected anonymously by a play selection committee.
The last time City Circle produced a new play festival, it was call City Circle Shorts. Here's a link to our coverage of that event.

City Circle postpones New Play Festival
City Circle - A notice on the City Circle website indicates that their New Play Festival has been postponed until later in 2010. Details expected sometime in January.
