Old Creamery's 2013 Season

Amana - The Old Creamery Theatre is pleased to announce the 2013 season. As always, the line-up includes something for everyone from comedies to musicals to dramas and children’s shows.

Feb. 14 – March 16, 2013

Death by Disco, a comic, murder mystery by James Daab
Go back to the 70’s with The Old Creamery Theatre and the Ox Yoke Inn for this year’s thriller murder mystery Death by Disco. Your favorite Old Creamery Theatre performers, platform shoes and all, will take you to the disco contest where someone won’t be “Staying Alive “after all. The evening comes complete with an Ox Yoke Inn dinner fit for any disco king or queen. Held at the Ox Yoke Inn, Amana. Call the Ox Yoke for reservations after Nov. 1, 2012, 800-233-3441.

The Last Romance
April 25 – May 26, 2013
A romantic comedy by Joe DiPietro

Falling in love again was not something Ralph was expecting. Fate, however, had other ideas for this lively widower and a different path home one evening leads him to Carol and changes his life. A funny account about second chances and the surprises life can bring. Rated Theatre PG.

Cookin’ With Gus
May 30 – June 30, 2013
A comedy by Jim Brochu

With the chance at her own television show being dangled in front of her like a perfectly glazed carrot, famous cookbook author Gussie Richardson decides to face her fear of the cameras to tape a cooking segment. With a few post hypnotic suggestions and “help” from the tipsy Gypsy next door, Gussie cooks up a recipe for laughter that will have you bubbling like a cheese soufflĂ©. Rated Theatre PG.

Lumberjacks in Love
August 1 – September 1, 2013
A musical comedy
Book and lyrics by Fred Alley; Music by James Kaplan; Story by Fred Alley and James Kaplan

Four manly lumberjacks living the bachelor life in their northern Wisconsin camp seem perfectly happy tucked away from civilization - and women. But, when a mail order bride is mistakenly sent for, everything changes. Join Minnesota Slim, Dirty Bob, Muskrat, Moonlight and The Kid, as they tell the wonders and woes of being a lumberjack in love with songs like The Bachelor’s Prayer, Stupid Love and Could It Be Cabin Fever. From the authors of Guys on Ice. Rated Theatre PG.

Unnecessary Farce
September 5 – October 6, 2013
A comedy by Paul Slade Smith

Eight doors, two police officers, and three criminals add up to one crazy police stakeout! Officers Eric and Billy are supposed to videotape a meeting between the mayor and his accountant during an investigation of missing city funds. However, nothing is as it seems and it becomes impossible to determine who the real criminals might be - or for that matter - what might happen next. This play is so much fun, it should be illegal! Rated Theatre PG-13.

Dial M for Murder
October 10 – November 10, 2013
A mystery by Frederick Knott

Everyone knows there’s no such thing as a perfect crime… or is there? When a husband marries for money and then decides to cash in his wife’s chips, chaos follows as everything unravels and suspicion begins to shift. A classic thriller full of suspense that you won’t want to miss. Rated Theatre PG.

Away in the Basement: A Church Basement Ladies Christmas
November 14 – December 22, 2013
A musical comedy inspired by the books of Janet Letnes Martin and Suzann Nelson including the best seller “Growing Up Lutheran.” Written by Greta Grosch. Music and lyrics by Drew Jansen.

Come celebrate the holidays with The Church Basement Ladies in this all-new show filled with their heart-warming humor and wisdom. The year is 1959 and the ladies are putting final touches on the annual Sunday School Christmas program. You can almost smell the cookies baking as these ladies dish out much more than holiday goodies. Away in the Basement is a delightfully funny way to celebrate the holiday season. Rated Theatre G.

Freud’s Last Session
April 4 - 21, 2013
A comic drama by Mark St. Germain

Be the fly on the wall as legendary psychoanalyst Dr. Sigmund Freud meets with famous author C. S. Lewis to discuss and debate, love, sex, the existence of God and the very meaning of life. Only a few weeks after their meeting, Freud died and Lewis, who in later years wrote The Chronicles of Narnia, was never to forget their historic meeting. A stimulating glimpse into two brilliant minds that you too will not forget. Rated Theatre R.

Moonlight and Magnolias
July 11 – 28, 2013
A comedy by Ron Hutchinson

Who’s not familiar with Margaret Mitchell’s Gone With the Wind? One of the screenwriters of the movie, that’s who! This is the hilarious behind-the-scenes account of three men who spent a weekend locked in an office rewriting the screenplay for the movie, Gone With the Wind, while the cameras were already rolling. See what “really” happened as the producer and director act out key scenes for the screenwriter for what eventually became one of the greatest movies ever made. Rated Theatre R.

Lombardi
September 19 – October 6, 2013
A biographical drama by Eric Simonson
Based on the book When Pride Still Mattered – A Life of Vince Lombardi by David Maraniss

1958 begins a whole new era for the Green Bay Packers when Vince Lombardi is named head coach for a team who has not had a winning season for more than a decade. Who could have known that Lombardi’s reign would take the Packers to new heights and their coach would become a legend? A look into the real life of famed coach Vince Lombardi and how he inspired all those he met. You don’t have to like football to love this play! Rated Theatre R

Tru
Dec. 5 – 22, 2013
A dramatic comedy by Jay Presson Allen

Truman Capote, or Tru to his friends, was never one to blend in. Throughout his life the flamboyant writer often stood out in the crowd. His ability to weave truth with fiction led to some of his greatest works, such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s and In Cold Blood. This play gives a glimpse of the man behind the pen, the socially elite and at times outcast Tru, whose impact on literature still runs deep. Rated Theatre R.

Follow the adventures of Worm, Spider and Fly from the first day of school through the last as they learn to dream big in this show filled with music and fun for all!

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow
Oct. 19 – Nov. 2, 2013
Adapted from Washington Irving’s story

The headless horseman is said to haunt the village of Sleepy Hollow, riding his horse at breakneck speed in the dark of night. Ichabod Crane, the new school master soon comes to know first hand if The Legend of Sleepy Hollow is fact or fiction and you will too! Join us for this fun and spooky classic tale. Just in time for Halloween!

The Velveteen Rabbit
Nov. 30 – Dec. 21, 2013
A musical adaption of the classic story by Margery Williams
Book and lyrics by George Gray
Music by Chris Talbert

New to the toy chest, the Velveteen Rabbit isn’t quite sure what he’s good for. He can’t spin like the top or float like the boat or talk like the Mechanical Man. But the boy comes to love him and the Skin Horse says once a child really loves a toy, it becomes real. See what happens in this delightful classic set to music.
