Waterloo - Black Hawk Children’s Theatre is offering fall classes in its “Come Get Dramatic with Us!” line-up. Sessions have been designed to meet the needs of different age groups. Sessions include:
Try It! Creative Play Sampler Class: Not sure if your child will enjoy a theatre class? This one hour class gives them a chance to try it before committing to a full course.
Wednesday, September 24 from 4-5pm | Ages 5-6 | Fee $5.00 - You will receive a $5 coupon redeemable for a future class.
Try It! Imagination Theatre Sampler Class: Not sure if your child will enjoy imaginative play and creative exploration? This 50 minute class will give them a chance to try before committing to a full course.
Thursday, September 25 from 4-4:50 pm | Ages 7-10 | Fee $5.00 - You will receive a $5 coupon redeemable for a future class.
Creative Play: Let your child explore their creative side with a theatre class that helps them feel comfortable in their own skin and more confident in front of others. Through games and acting exercises, we start to develop these skills as well as beginning to play with characters and their stories.
Wednesdays, October 1-October 22 from 4-5 pm | Ages 5-6 | Fee $45 (Discount available for Season Ticket holders).
Imagination Theatre: Want to encourage your child’s creativity? Let them take a class that lets them explore a world of imagination through games, improvisation training, and team-building exercises. Join us for this class and let them get in touch with their creative side.
Thursdays, October 2-November 6 from 4-4:50 pm | Ages 7-10 | Fee $50 (Discount available for Season Ticket holders).
Dramatic Arts Workshop: Through improvisational exercises and scene study, kids will get a chance to work on developing characters for performance. This class is geared toward students interested in working on performance skills and on-stage awareness.
Thursdays, October 2-November 6 from 5-5:50 pm | Ages 11-14 | Fee $50 (Discount available for Season Ticket holders).
BHCT has been providing theatre classes to children for over 40 years. These fall classes will be located in the WCP/BHCT Walker Building at 224 Commercial Street in Waterloo. Classes will be primarily taught by Anita Ross, who earned both an MFA in Theatre and a MLS in Library Science. Anita has been directing at BHCT since 2009. She previously was an actor/instructor and show manager with Poetry Alive! of Asheville, North Carolina, where she spent four years traveling across the country performing poetry for schools and libraries. She also worked with kindergarten through 12th-grade students in one-day to two-week residencies with Poetry Alive! Anita's experience also includes performing and teaching performance techniques and activities with the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. Before her career in theatre, she worked as a school librarian.
