Iowa City - ICCT will open their 57th season with The Fantasticks! by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones. Auditions are July 27 and 28.
Audition times are 6:30-9:00 on July 27 and 1:00-5:00 on July 28, in Room B of the Iowa City Rec Center. Performers are asked to prepare a song that shows their range. There will be cold reading from the script.
The Girl (Luisa) In her late teen age years, she desperately wants to be more than ordinary. She’s in love with the idea of love and the boy next door. Soprano.
The Boy (Matt) Recently out of college, he feels ready to take his place in the world but finds himself hopelessly flummoxed and smitten by the girl next door. Tenor/bari-tenor.
The Boy’s Father (Hucklebee) Formerly in the Navy , his/ her garden and demeanor are clipped and orderly, with a touch of devil may care.
The Girl’s Father (Bellomy) A former button salesman he is more indulgent but worried about the cost of everything. Mystified by his/her daughter.
The Narrator- El Gallo. The director of the play within a play, he makes the events happen, commenting on characters and motivation. Within the play he is a dashing and dangerous swashbuckler who plays it up for the audience. Strong baritone.
The Old Actor - Aging with a faulty memory but with many memories of his/ her glory days (No singing required).
The Man Who Dies – an actor with a single claim to fame (No singing required).
The Mute- (male or female) El Gallo’s stage manager/ henchman, making the magic happen with props and stage effects. (No singing required).
