Auditions for Lion, Witch and Wardrobe

Coralville - Youth entering grades 4th through 12th grade are invited to audition for Footliters' production of  The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe on July 9 & 10 from 6pm-8pm. Auditions are at the Coralville Public Library in the Schwab Auditorium. (Please park in the underground parking).

Matt Falduto will direct this play, adapted by Joseph Robinette from the C.S. Lewis novel. Rehearsals from run July 28-September 11. Performances are September 12-14 at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts.
 

Those auditioning may prepare a short monologue or be prepared to do a cold reading from provided scripts. Note that tech week (September 7-11) and performances will be mandatory for all participants. They are open to cross-gender casting of many roles, including Aslan.

Cabaret Auditions

Iowa City - "Join us July 13 & 14 from 2:00-5:00 p.m. in Room B of the Robert A. Lee Rec Center for Cabaret auditions. The show will run September 13-15 & 20-22.

Set in 1931 Berlin as the Nazis are rising to power, the show focuses on nightlife at the seedy Kit Kat Klub and revolves around the 19-year-old English cabaret performer Sally Bowles and her relationship with the young American writer Cliff Bradshaw. Overseeing the action is the Kit Kat Klub’s Master of Ceremonies, who provides oblique commentary to the tenuous and threatening state of late Weimar Germany throughout the show.

Auditions for Young Footliters' Junie B. Jones

Young Footliters will be holding auditions for Junie B. Jones: Jingle Bells, Batman Smells.

When: Tuesday, September 4th and Wednesday, September 5th from 6:00-8:00 (by appointment)

Where: Coralville Public Library, Schwab Auditorium

These auditions will be open to High School Students.

Actors will be asked to read from the script. They may also prepare a brief comedic monologue and/or a pop song (a capella).

This production will be a children's show performed by high school students. It will be a musical incorporating popular songs that we all know and love. The performance will be held at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts on November 9, 10, and 11.

Auditions for The Hobbit

Coralville - Auditions for City Circle's production of The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkein (adapted for the stage by Patricia Gray) will take place at the Coralville Public Library on August 28 and 29. There will be parts for both children and adults; James E. Trainor III directs.

Roles

Bilbo Baggins The titular hobbit. A reluctant adventurer. (Male, age 12-18)
Thorin Oakenshield The king of the dwarves. A bold leader. (Male, age 18-22)
12 Dwarves Adventurers on a quest for wealth and fame (Male or Female, age 8-16)
Gandalf An ancient wizard who aids the wee folk in their quest. (Male, age 40+)
Gollum A hideous creature, corrupted by the Ring of Power. (Male or Female, age 8-16)
Smaug A dragon who guards treasure taken from Thorin's ancestors (Male or Female, age 18+)
Elven-Queen Queen of the Elves. Smaug also stole her people's treasure. (Female, age 18+)
Bert A troll (Male, age 18+)
Tom Another troll (Male, age 18+)
Essie Another troll (Female, age 18+)
[various Goblins, Hobbits, and Elves for smaller roles]

The Hobbit begins rehearsals September 4th; performances are Oct. 26 - 28 and Nov. 2 - 4. Auditions are in the E. Jean Schwab Auditorium at the Coralville Public Library, 5:30 - 7:30 August 28 & 29.

Auditions for Deathtrap

Cedar Falls - CFCT is producing Deathtrap by Ira Levin in October, and are looking for five adult actors. William G. Dawson directs.

Auditions take place August 12 and 13 at 7:00 at Oster Regent Theatre.

Roles

"Sidney Bruhl, 50's, give or take a few years. A famous playwright who is now in a slump. He's charming, witty, and a bit full of himself.

Myra, his rich wife and similar age, she's frail with a heart condition.

Clifford Anderson, young playwright, has written what could be the next big hit.

Porter Milgrim, Sidney's attorney and protective friend.

Helga Ten Dorp, a Psychic with a Dutch accent who's helped police solve crimes. She's staying next door."

Auditions at TCR

Cedar Rapids - Theatre Cedar Rapids is auditioning two shows -- a mainstage musical (Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson) and a studio space straight play (November by David Mamet). Auditions are August 5th and 6th at 7:00.

November runs September 21 - October 13 in the Grandon Studio. Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson runs September 28 - October 20 on the mainstage. Those looking to audition for Bloody, Bloody Andrew Jackson should brush up on their pop-punk: singers are asked to "come prepared to sing 16 bars of a Green Day or Florence and the Machine song."

Auditions for The Fantasticks

Iowa City - ICCT will open their 57th season with The Fantasticks! by Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones. Auditions are July 27 and 28.

Audition times are 6:30-9:00 on July 27 and 1:00-5:00 on July 28, in Room B of the Iowa City Rec Center. Performers are asked to prepare a song that shows their range. There will be cold reading from the script.

Roles

The Girl (Luisa) In her late teen age years, she desperately wants to be more than ordinary. She’s in love with the idea of love and the boy next door. Soprano.

The Boy (Matt) Recently out of college, he feels ready to take his place in the world but finds himself hopelessly flummoxed and smitten by the girl next door. Tenor/bari-tenor.

The Boy’s Father (Hucklebee) Formerly in the Navy , his/ her garden and demeanor are clipped and orderly, with a touch of devil may care.

The Girl’s Father (Bellomy) A former button salesman he is more indulgent but worried about the cost of everything. Mystified by his/her daughter.

The Narrator- El Gallo. The director of the play within a play, he makes the events happen, commenting on characters and motivation. Within the play he is a dashing and dangerous swashbuckler who plays it up for the audience. Strong baritone.

The Old Actor - Aging with a faulty memory but with many memories of his/ her glory days (No singing required).

The Man Who Dies – an actor with a single claim to fame (No singing required).

The Mute- (male or female) El Gallo’s stage manager/ henchman, making the magic happen with props and stage effects. (No singing required).

Auditions for The Women of Lockerbie

Iowa City - Dreamwell is looking for mature actors for this September's production of The Women of Lockerbie by Deborah Brevoort. The play, "modeled on Greek drama and epic in form," tells the story of a group of women in Lockerbie, who are attempting to get access to the clothes of people who died in a plane crash there, so that they can wash them and return them to the victims' families. Rachael Lindhart directs.

Cast

MADELINE LIVINGSTON - "American housewife and the mother of a 20-year old son killed in the crash 7 years ago. She will need to be in her late 40s or early 50s."

BILL LIVINGSTON - "American -- husband of Madeline and father of the son killed in the crash. Also in late 40s or early 50s."

OLIVE ALLISON - "An older woman from Lockerbie (Scottish accent) who is the leader of the laundry project. She is also in her 40s.

WOMAN 1 & WOMAN 2 - "Both women of Lockerbie (Scottish accent) who are part of the laundry project. Could be 30s or 40s or older. Although they don't have names, both are considerable roles -- not chorus or bit parts, although they do sometimes form part of a chorus."

HATTIE - "A cleaning woman from Lockerbie. Again, will need a Scottish accent but could be 30s, 40s or older."

GEORGE JONES - "American government representative in charge of warehouse. His age is variable. He could be a seasoned government man in his 50s or older, or he could be younger and seeking to advance in his government department; but at least in his 30s."

Auditions are being held at the Univeralist Unitarian Society on Saturday, July 14 (2:00 - 4:30) and the Coralville Public Library (Room B) on Tuesday, July 17 (7:00 - 8:30). Actors will read from the script; copies are available to reserve at the Coralville Public Library. Auditions for Noises Off June 18 & 19

City Circle - Auditions for Michael Frayn's farce Noises Off, directed by Wally Chappell, will take place at the Iowa City Public Library (Meeting Room B) on June 18 from 6:30 - 9:00, and at the Coralville Public Library (E. Jean Schwab Auditorium) on June 19 from 6:00 - 8:30.

There will be sides at the audition; no preparation is necessary but a brief comic monologue or a joke is welcome. Performances begin September 7. Contact noisesoffcc@gmail.com.

Auditions for Julius Caesar

OAMV - This summer, an independent company called Open Arenas Mt. Vernon Production Company (with some help from Mt. Vernon-Lisbon Community Theatre) will be staging Shakespeare's Julius Caesar. The company is led by Grant Freeman, who will direct the production. Auditions will be held May 29 and 30 at 7:00 at Heritage Hall (2nd floor of the Lisbon Library, 101 East Main Street in Lisbon).

OAMV is looking to cast Julius Caesar with about 15 actors of both sexes, ages ranging from 17-60. This will require some double-casting. In addition, Brutus will be cast younger than tradition suggests (17-25), and Cassius will be played by a woman. Performances are July 26, 27, 28 in the District Auditorium in Mt. Vernon.

Auditions for Camp Rock June 2 - 5

TCR - Auditions for Camp Rock will be held on June 3 and 4, with callbacks on June 5. Dance-only auditions (for actors who do not sing but have strong dance skills) will be held on June 2 from 1:00 to 3:00. General Auditions are 7:00 - 10:00 on June 3 and 4.

L. D. Kidd will direct and choreograph the production, with music direction from Alex Schields. More information here.

Auditions for Nunsense June 3 & 4

MVLCT - Mount Vernon-Lisbon Community Theatre will be presenting Nunsense by Dan Goggin in July. Auditions are June 3 and 4 at 7:00 in the District Auditorium of the Mt. Vernon Middle School, 525 Palisades Road in Mt. Vernon.

Roles:

SISTER MARY REGINA is to the outside world a model Mother Superior-even if she is overweight. But to those who know her, she is an outrageous, quick-witted soul who knows how to get a laugh. She tries to convince you that she is strict, but everyone knows that her “bark is worse than her bite.”She can't resist the spotlight. Her vocal part is mezzo.

SISTER MARY HUBERT is a kind person who always tries to be understanding and diplomatic. She teaches the Novices the ground rules, and is supposed to be dignified. But with the slightest bit of encouragement, she is ready to kick up her heels. Second in command she is always competing with Mother Superior. Her vocal part is alto.

SISTER ROBERT ANNE is a tough streetwise nun who has a heart of gold. All the kids adore her because she speaks their language. And she can hit a baseball “out of the park.” A constant source of aggravation for Mother Superior. Her vocal part is alto belt.

SISTER MARY AMNESIA is the picture of innocence. She lost her memory when a crucifix fell on her head. She can't remember her past, and so she looks at each day with a childlike joy. Her vocal range is soprano.

SISTER MARY LEO was a professional dancer before she entered the convent, and she is always eager to display her talent. She is also impressionable because she is young and could easily be lead astray. She entered the convent to become the first ballerina nun. Her vocal range is soprano.

Auditions for Legally Blonde May 26

City Circle - Legally Blonde, Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin's musical based on the 2001 film, is opening at the Coralville Center for the Performing Arts in July. On May 26, City Circle welcomes any students grades 7-12 (or graduating this year) to audition.

Actors should prepare a brief contemporary comedic monologue and bring the sheet music for at least 16 bars of a Broadway show tune. Contact CCLegallyBlonde@gmail.com to schedule an audition time or to ask additional questions.

There will also be a dance workshop on May 10 hosted by Nolte Dance Studios and City Circle. The workshop is at Nolte's studios in the Clock Tower Plaza in Coralville from 7:30 - 9:00. There is no cost to attend.
